Contact tracing is the process of finding, assessing and managing the people who have been exposed to a disease, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
We do it to prevent more people from getting sick with the same disease.
This is what’s made it such an important public health tool for controlling COVID-19.
It may be a crucial process and one that public health teams have been using for a long time but it’s also quite a hard one to get right.

A young child who attended an early learning centre is among the new COVID-19 cases in Victoria.
On Thursday, Professor Ewan Wallace spoke at the daily press conference and confirmed the child had been to the Goodstart Early Learning Centre on Plenty Road in Bundoora.
The child was there from October 20th to the 22nd and the facility has been listed as a virus exposure site.
Her mother was identified as a case on the 25th and the child was quarantined from that day onwards, Wallace said.
